with their worst record since Patrick Sharp Jersey 2011. You never want to bet against Buck Showalter, but it's hard to see this team competing with the Red Sox and Yankees in the AL East, which means Manny Machado and Zach Britton will likely be traded before they hit free agency after the 2018 season -- if not this winter, then certainly during the season when the front office realizes the team isn't very good.
I can't wait to see what Rhys Hoskins can do over a full season and Jorge Alfaro, Nick Williams and J.P. Crawford should be fun to watch as they get a chance to play, though all three will likely display some growing pains.
The rotation needs a lot of help after Aaron Nola -- Vince Velasquez and Jerad Eickhoff failed to improve on http://www.officiallachargersshop.com/Antonio_Gates_Jersey_Cheap their 2016 breakout seasons, and neither pitched in September. At some point, the Phillies will spend some money in free agency, but they'll probably wait for the blockbuster 2018 free-agent class.
The Padres were a respectable 33-41 in the second half, as Andy Green got a lot out of the talent on hand, but their run differential was still poor, and there isn't really any star power here. Manuel Margot might turn into a nice all-around player, but questions remain about Hunter Renfroe (.284 OBP) and Austin Hedges (.262 OBP). The farm system has some upside, but most of the top prospects were in the lower minors.
It was an amazing run for the Eric Hosmer-Mike Moustakas-Lorenzo Cain group, with a 2015 World Series flag that will fly forever, but all three are free agents, and all three will probably end up signing with a new team. Even with Hosmer and Moustakas having their best seasons,
the Royals weren't very good in 2017, winning 80 games and getting outscored by 89 runs. Without a new pipeline of talent to replace the free agents, it's going to be a long rebuilding process, and that's one reason Dayton Moore could leave to take over the Braves (so far, the Braves have been denied permission to talk to him).
They lost 98 games with a team that had Justin Upton and Justin Verlander on the roster for most of the season and J.D. Martinez for 57 games. Without those three in September, they went an abysmal 6-24 while getting outscored by 90 runs. That's a shocking three runs per game, even though two of the six wins were by scores of 13-2 and 12-0. Patrick Sharp Jersey Even a bounce-back from Miguel Cabrera won't be enough to save this team from 100 losses.
All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith sat out of practice, but that has become a normal Wednesday occurrence lately because of back tightness. Rookie defensive back Chidobe Awuzie went through a limited practice for the first time in three weeks as he works back from a hamstring strain. The Cowboys will be cautious with him as this is something he has not been able to shake since the preseason. Once he is ready to go, then he could be a full-time safety. -- Todd Archer
This should be the week that wide receiver Sterling Shepard returns from an ankle injury after missing two games. Last week's bye helped. Shepard even said Wednesday that he's straight this time after suffering a minor setback prior to the Seahawks game. His presence should help the Giants' offense. -- Jordan Raanan
Eagles corner Patrick Robinson has cleared protocol after suffering a concussion last week against the 49ers, and has returned to practice. He should be available this week against the Broncos. Fellow cornerback Ronald Darby, meanwhile, started the week as a http://www.officialshopknights.com/authentic-adidas-89-alex-tuch-jersey limited participant. He's still working back from a dislocated ankle sustained in the opener against Washington, With a Week 10 bye in sight, the Eagles could opt to give Darby some extra recovery time before bringing him back. -- Tim McManus
On the bright side, Joey Gallo hit 41 bombs that traveled an estimated 4 miles or so, Elvis Andrus hit 20 home runs, and Adrian Beltre continued to defy time with another great season (though he played just 97 games). On the negative, Rougned Odor took a Kirk Mclean Jersey big step backward, and the pitching staff ranked last in the majors in strikeout rate. Jon Daniels will have to address that latter problem to get the Rangers back in the playoffs; note that the top eight teams in strikeout rate were the eight teams playing in the Division Series. Maybe that means re-signing Yu Darvish -- and bringing in Shohei Otani to join him.
I think they were a little bit of a fluke. I feel bad saying that. I like the Twins. Love that airport. Still remember Kent Hrbek and Kirby Puckett as mainstays on my Pursue the Pennant team. I'll even buy into much of that offensive production the final two months, when the Twins led the majors in runs scored. Byron Buxton playing center field was as lovely as the sound of a child's laughter. Still, the rotation and bullpen give me jitters, with a strikeout rate that ranked 19th in the majors.
Welcome to the Derek Jeter era of Marlins baseball. What is the plan? Nobody knows! The argument that the Marlins can't trade Giancarlo Stanton because they'll lose the fan base seems like a nonstarter: The Marlins have finished last in the
National League in attendance five years running. I wouldn't let that dictate a baseball decision. Realistically, Stanton's contract means it will be difficult to trade him anyway. So they're left with Stanton coming off a 59-homer season, Marcell Ozuna coming off a monster .312/.376/.548 season ... and let's stop there before we have to discuss the rotation.
As a Mariners fan, I'd like to convince myself that the Mariners will be better than this, given my Pacific Northwest roots and that this is the franchise with the longest playoff drought. Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano, however, will be another year older, Kyle Seager oddly hit worse as everyone else in the league hit better, and it's time for Mariners fans to admit that Felix Hernandez is a back-end starter at this point in his career -- if he can even stay healthy. Yes, the rotation was riddled with injuries, but there's not much room in the payroll to solidify that area. Only the Giants received fewer home runs from their outfielders, and the M's need a center fielder to replace Jarrod Dyson. Hmm, Chris Taylor would look pretty good there.
On the one hand, they're the most obvious bounce-back team for 2018. On the other hand, they were legitimately awful in 2017. Injuries weren't really an excuse, and the issues that arose -- especially the bad defense and lack of power in the outfield -- were entirely predictably. The Giants' front office clearly had a terrible 2016-17 offseason. Obviously, they need Johnny Cueto, Matt Moore and Jeff Samardzija to pitch better. Improved defense will help. Good luck, however, finding an entirely new outfield in one offseason. (And, no, they shouldn't count on Hunter Pence and Denard Span for 2018.)
For some reason, just because they were moving into a new ballpark, Braves management tried to convince the fans they were sleeper playoff contenders. They weren't. And they won't be in 2018. Freddie Freeman is a legit superstar, Ender Inciarte is underrated, and Ozzie Albies looks like a future stud, but they're still stuck with Matt Kemp and Nick Markakis (combined WAR of minus-0.6), and Dansby Swanson has to rebuild his value after a miserable season. The biggest issue, however, is that they're still waiting on all these young pitchers. Mike Foltynewicz, Sean Newcomb and Luiz Gohara could put it all together, but it still seems like the Braves are a couple years away.
Rick Hahn has assembled an interesting group of young players and prospects, but there are still a lot of holes here. Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia carried the offense while Yoan Moncada showed promise, but with a strikeout rate that indicated he's still a work in progress. Otherwise, there isn't much here. The White Sox somehow gave 300 at-bats to a guy who hit .166 (Adam Engel), and Tim Anderson struck out 162 times while drawing just 13 walks. Hahn will have to rebuild the bullpen after trading David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle and Anthony Swarzak midseason and hope guys such as Michael Kopech, Reynaldo Lopez and Lucas Giolito can help in the rotation.
Think of everything that went right for the Reds in 2017: Joey Votto had an MVP-caliber season, Zack Cozart had a .933 OPS, Scooter Gennett hit 27 home runs, Eugenio Suarez had a breakout campaign, Tucker Barnhart developed into a Gold Glove-caliber catcher, http://www.officialjetsnflproshop.com/YOUTH+ARDARIUS+STEWART+JERSEY and even Scott Schebler smacked 30 home runs. They still lost 94 games. Note that none of the players just listed was a pitcher.
The team fell apart in September, going 7-21 to finish with their worst record since 2011.
I can't wait to see what Rhys Hoskins can do over a full season and Jorge Alfaro, Nick http://www.eaglesofficialsshop.com/Alshon_Jeffery_Jersey_Cheap Williams and J.P. Crawford should be fun to watch as they get a chance to play, though all three will likely display some growing pains. The rotation needs a lot of help after Aaron Nola -- Vince Velasquez Kirk Mclean Jersey and Jerad Eickhoff failed to improve on their 2016 breakout seasons, and neither pitched in September. At some point, the Phillies will spend some money in free agency, but they'll probably wait for the blockbuster 2018 free-agent class.
Award but is still the best player in the game. It helps that Andrelton Simmons had a solid season at the plate Womens Marquise Goodwin Jersey to go with his spectacular defense. Albert Pujols, despite 101 RBIs, is an out machine at this point in his career, which is why the Angels desperately need Justin
Upton to not exercise is opt-out clause -- or to re-sign him if he does. The pitching staff likely overachieved in 2017, so GM Billy Eppler should bring in a starter or two. There probably isn't a ton of upside here, but they're a safe bet to finish around .500 because of Trout.
Thanks to 38 home runs from Logan Morrison and 30 from Steven Souza Jr., the Rays mashed a franchise-record 228 home runs -- nearly double the 117 they hit in 2014. But they have to improve their situational hitting, as they ranked 14th in the AL in runs scored because they were last in the majors with a .227 average and .359 slugging percentage with runners in scoring position (worse than all NL teams).
There's big upside in the rotation aside from Chris Archer, as Blake Snell (4.04 ERA) and Jacob Faria (3.43) showcased top-of-the-rotation ability, plus top prospect Brent Honeywell is just about ready. They'll have to replace longtime pitching coach Jim Hickey, who left to rejoin Joe Maddon with the Cubs.
The big question for the Brewers: Now that they got to this level, how do they get to the next one? Given that they aren't paying anyone except Ryan Braun, there's room to bring on some salary, but the reluctance to swing a deal for Jose Quintana last summer makes you wonder if that will happen (it didn't help that some of the club's top prospects, such as Corey Ray and Isan Diaz, struggled, reducing their trade value). Remember that Jimmy Nelson, who had a huge season, will miss a significant portion of the season after shoulder surgery.
It was a disappointing season for the Pirates, and they probably played above their talent to win 75 games. Starling Marte had the PED suspension and played just 77 games (and didn't hit as well when he returned), and Gregory Polanco was a huge letdown with a .251 average and just 11 home runs. They ended up with Andrew McCutchen back in center, where he remains a defensive liability.
If Marte and Polanco bounce back and Josh Bell continues to improve, the offense could be pretty good (though Jung Ho Kang's visa issues remain, and there's no guarantee he'll be back). The biggest http://www.authenticlosangelesdodgers.com/Yasiel-Puig-Jersey key, however, is better results from Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon and maybe a second-half call-up for Mitch Keller.
Here's your deep sleeper for 2017. The anonymous A's were 36-37 in the second half and playing even in Womens Marquise Goodwin Jersey run differential. Two rookies who should make bigger impacts in Womens Marquise Goodwin Jersey their first full seasons: Matt Olson, who slugged .651 in 189 at-bats, and Matt Chapman, who plays a Nolan Arenado-esque third base and has 25-homer power. The Athletics need a center fielder, and the rotation depth is shaky, http://www.patriotsnflofficialsauthentic.com/Stephon-Gilmore-Jersey.html but this is a young team Womens Marquise Goodwin Jersey that should continue to improve.
The Rockies got some unlikely performances from some unheralded rookies, and even if there is some regression in order, they have rotation depth for the first time in franchise history, especially if Jon Gray can give 30 starts at an ace-like level and Jeff Hoffman reaches his http://www.jetsofficialsnflprostore.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_MARCUS_MAYE_JERSEY.html prospect pedigree. The offense is actually the bigger problem: It's bad outside of Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon. The Rockies will probably let Carlos Gonzalez walk as a free agent after a bad season, but that means committing to Ian Desmond as an outfielder. How about a Giancarlo Stanton trade?
The offense was terrible, finishing last in the AL in runs. They'll be parting ways with Jose Bautista and should think about an alternative to the ineffective and injury-prone Troy Tulowitzki. Josh Donaldson remains an MVP candidate, and it's unlikely they will trade him. If the offense improves, the rotation could make the Blue Jays competitive, at least if they can get more than eight starts from 2016 ERA champ Aaron Sanchez.
Do I have confidence that ownership will hire the right manager and allow Sandy Alderson to make the right moves? Absolutely not. Do I have confidence that ownership will fix the problems with the training staff? Nope. Do I believe that Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith are ready to become contributors? I do not. I'm going with the 2017 season being one of those seasons in which the bad stuff starts happening and everything just snowballs. Improvement starts with a healthy Noah Syndergaard and a better bullpen ... and a parting of the ways with Matt Harvey.
maybe it's fatigue because this team is always a pest in the West, but man, the St. Louis Blues are sneaky-good. As if a 10-2-1 record and four-game winning streak aren't enough, the Blues' most recent win was a 4-2 thriller over the next-best team in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Kings, on Monday. St. Louis is the only undefeated team at home, and have the league's best winning percentage since their coaching change last season.
Most impressive about this iteration of the Blues: They're the http://www.hockeyjetsofficialauthentic.com/Laurie_Boschman_Jersey_Adidas same team that has made the playoffs Tracy Mcgrady Youth jersey every season since 2011-12, but with an extra element of surprise. Yes, Vladimir Tarasenko is usually the biggest threat on the ice -- but now he has an equally dangerous sidekick in Jaden Schwartz. The 25-year-old Schwartz has actually been more productive, with 17 points in the first seven games (Tarasenko is doing just fine with 14 points).
And yes, this is still a team anchored by stingy defense -- their 2.33 goals per game is third in the league -- but with newish coach Mike Yeo, they've also incorporated an up-tempo pace. Also: led by Alex Pietrangelo's 13 points, Blues' defensemen have been major contributors on offense. Remember, the Blues have suffered incredibly poor injury luck. Robby Fabbri is lost for the season with knee surgery, Alex Steen missed the first six games while Patrik Berglund,
Jay Bouwmeester and Zach Sanford are still sidelined. And even still, everything has been falling the http://www.pacersprostore.com/WOMENS-LANCE-STEPHENSON-JERSEY.html Blues' http://www.saintsofficialonlineshop.com/SUPER-BOWL-LARRY-WARFORD-JERSEY way. Even their emergency veteran signing, Scottie Upshall, has panned out, reigniting chemistry with four points in his last two games. As long as they're playing this well, it will be impossible not to overlook the Blues. They're not just sneaky-good, they're good.
Chris Peters: I think the feel-good Vegas Golden Knights and resurgent Kings have commanded a lot of the attention, and I wouldn't necessarily say that no one is talking about the Tampa Bay Lightning. They're just not talking about the Lighting in a way that expresses the proper disbelief in how insane they've been to start the season. Maybe it's because most people expected them to bounce back from such a disappointing 2016-17 season, but the Lightning are way back.
Aside from a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, they've been in every game they've played. In their other two losses, they still http://www.coltsnflofficialauthentic.com/YOUTH+SCOTT+TOLZIEN+JERSEY scored four goals. They're basically daring teams to outscore them and it's not happening very often. With an 8-5 win over the Florida Panthers Monday night, the Bolts extended their league leads in goals (53) and goal differential (plus-17).
Steven Stamkos has gone from one of the league's elite goal scorers to essentially a setup man this season, as he paces the league with 18 assists and 24 points. Nikita Kucherov is averaging a goal per game with 13 in 13. Throw in Brayden Point and Vladislav Namestnikov, and Tampa has four of the top 30 scorers in the NHL. Rookie Mikhail Sergachev is fifth in points among defensemen.
It's cartoonish. Tracy Mcgrady Youth jersey I know, I know. It's also not sustainable. At least not at this rate, where they're scoring on more than 12 percent of their shots. But they have too much firepower on this roster to not continue scoring at a high rate, even if it's not quite at the level they're scoring now. It has been and will continue to be darn fun to watch. Tell your friends.
For Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane, the epiphany came on one of the first plays of a November 2016 game in Edmonton. "[McDavid] was skating so fast up the ice," Kane recalled. "Our Tracy Mcgrady Youth jersey defenseman was going backward. He had to turn around and skate forward -- like, directly at our net. McDavid still got a breakaway and got a shot off."
Nashville Predators captain Roman Josi was on the receiving end of one such McDavid burn in October 2015: "I was covering him, and he got a pass from our blue line," the defenseman explained. "He was kind of in between, I thought I was going to get it and cut it off, but all he did was toss to his backhand a little bit, then turn [the other] way. I hadn't even turned yet ... but he was already over there!"
McDavid's teammates are awed by his on-ice antics, too. "I mean, people all see the stuff that he does in the games," says New York Islanders Tracy Mcgrady Youth jersey winger Jordan Eberle, who played with McDavid in Edmonton for two seasons. "But the stuff in practice is just as impressive, if not more."
what has transpired in the http://www.officialbruinsprostore.com/david-krejci-jersey-for-sale-c-9.html first five games of this World Series. Asked about the state of his bullpen heading into Game 6, Astros manager A.J. Hinch responded, "Well, we have two innings of bullpen left," before correcting himself and saying, "I'm sorry, two games' worth of bullpen left, and our guys will be ready."
Of course, that first answer might be the more accurate one. In 19 innings in this World Series, the Houston bullpen has allowed 16 hits, 16 runs and five home runs. For the entire postseason, it has a 5.94 ERA with 13 home runs surrendered in 53 innings, and that includes a couple of stellar outings from guys who spent most of the season in the rotation.
Then again, the Dodgers bullpen, after dominating the first two rounds, hasn't exactly been locking things down either. That group has given up 15 runs in 23? innings with nine home runs and just 13 strikeouts. If closer Kenley Jansen, who blew just one save in the regular season, had done his job, this World Series would likely be over, but he blew a save in Game 2 and took the loss in Game 5. He has given up runs in three consecutive outings and has certainly lost his aura of invincibility.
As we map out what might develop these next two games, however, Jansen is probably the one guy to be least concerned about. At the minimum, we know he's still the guy manager Dave Roberts will go to in the ninth inning, and probably the eighth.
"Our confidence in Kenley hasn't changed," Roberts said Monday. "He'll be available [Tuesday] night, as this is an elimination game for us. And I think the most important thing is his confidence hasn't changed."
What has changed is everything else. Hinch didn't use Ken Giles in Game 5 even as six relievers combined to allow eight runs in 6? innings. Giles was a top-five closer in the regular season, but after allowing runs in six of his seven postseason appearances, he appears to be buried so deep right now that he's not even in the doghouse, but sleeping out behind the fence with the feral cats. Here are some ideas on how these final two games might unfold: Justin Verlander won't throw a complete game
Obviously, the dream scenario for the Astros is for Verlander to match his ALCS Game 2 performance against the Yankees, when he threw 124 pitches and went the distance, and celebrate the winning World Series by leaping into Brian McCann's beefy arms in the bottom of the ninth.
The more realistic scenario, however, is that Verlander doesn't go all nine. There have been just five complete games in the World Series since 2000. James van Riemsdyk Authentic Jersey It certainly makes sense for Hinch to James van Riemsdyk Authentic Jersey push Verlander as deep as possible since he's leading in the series, but you also don't want to create a Matt Harvey-like situation from the 2015 World Series and leave Verlander in too long.
The question: If you're leading, who comes out of the bullpen? If Verlander goes seven, maybe Lance McCullers Jr., who would be throwing on three days' rest after going 87 pitches in Game 3. Or maybe you simply hold back McCullers and Game 4 starter Charlie Morton for Game 7, no matter what.
Brad Peacock, after throwing 92 pitches in two games in Houston, almost certainly isn't an option in Game 6. If you end up using McCullers in Game 6 and there ends up being a Game 7, you could still start Morton on three days of rest, with Peacock and probably Dallas Keuchel available in relief.
If Hinch doesn't want to risk Morton on short rest in a possible Game 7, maybe Giles gets another chance. Or Joe Musgrove, who got the win in Game 5 with a scoreless 10th inning. No matter what, Musgrove says there are no excuses this time of year. "Everyone's ready to throw every day," he said after Game 5. "I try to keep every day as normal as possible. You're more mentally tired than physically tired."
Another question: Where's Francisco Liriano? He warmed up several times in Game 5 but hasn't pitched in the series after appearing just once James van Riemsdyk Authentic Jersey in the ALCS. It seems strange that Hinch hasn't brought him to face lefties Corey Seager and/or Cody Bellinger http://www.authenticmapleleafsstore.com/-28-kasperi-kapanen-jersey_c-455.html at some point. Given how little he has used his bench, Hinch is kind of playing with a 17-man roster. If Seager and Bellinger hit second and fourth, using Liriano to face that part of the order is a possibility as well.
LOS ANGELES -- When http://seahawksofficialnflauthentics.com/fred-jackson-jersey_c-426.html the history of the 2017 World Series is written, the sixth inning of Game 6 will be a minor footnote, buried behind the dramatics of Games 2 and 5 and whatever happens Frank White Womens Jersey in Game 7. If the Los Angeles Dodgers do win the final game of the season, however, don't forget what transpired over those 42 sixth-inning pitches on Tuesday night. It might go down as the inning that saved the Dodgers' season.
Through five innings, Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander had dominated, throwing a one-hitter with eight strikeouts. He was looking as if he might challenge Sandy Koufax's 1965 three-hit shutout or Jack Morris' 10-inning masterpiece in 1991 or Josh Beckett's Game 6 gem to beat the Yankees in 2003 as the best clinching performance in World Series history.
In the middle of it all was an unlikely contributor, Chase Utley, a 38-year-old second baseman with graying hair who had been hitless the entire postseason and didn't even start the game.2017 MLB PostseasonKeep up with the latest as baseball's top teams contend for the title.
The inning began with the Astros up 1-0 and Jose Altuve leading off against reliever Brandon Morrow, who got a huge out to end the fifth inning, replacing Rich Hill with the bases loaded and retiring Alex Bregman on a ground ball. It was Morrow's sixth appearance of the World Series. His fifth appearance had been a disaster, as he threw six pitches and gave up two home runs, a double and a single. But the pitch to get Bregman? A 99 mph fastball. After a day of rest, his velocity was back.
"A guy that we've trusted all year long in that spot," manager Dave Roberts said after the game. "I felt that you have to Frank White Womens Jersey use that bullet in Brandon Morrow, and I've believed in him all year long. And he came through in the biggest spot of the season."
Morrow retired Altuve on a grounder to third, an 89 mph slider after hitting 99 on an earlier pitch. He fanned Carlos Correa swinging on an unfair 1-2 slider that dipped below the knees.
"He was big," catcher Austin Barnes said. "All of his pitches seemed to be working. He's been used a lot, but we want him on the mound and he wants to be on the mound, so it's good to see him and the whole bullpen rebound."Yuli Gurriel lined a base hit to center, however, bringing up lefty-swinging Brian McCann.
Roberts had a tough choice: Leave in Morrow, who was due up second in the bottom of the sixth, or go to the lefty-lefty matchup with Tony Watson. He brought in Watson, but in doing so double-switched Logan Forsythe out of the game and inserted Utley in the Morrow's spot. It was a debatable move.
Utley was 0-for-14 and doesn't have the range at second that Forsythe does. Yes, a pinch hitter would have been needed anyway in the bottom of the sixth against Verlander, but that could have been Andre Ethier, and you would have kept Forsythe in the game.
And then Watson hit McCann, bringing up tough switch-hitter Marwin Gonzalez. At 2-2, Watson threw a changeup, low and in, Gonzalez lined it up the middle -- http://www.authenticlosangelesangels.com/Cameron-Maybin-Jersey right to a leaping Utley. In the pre-shift era, that's a base hit to center. In Frank White Womens Jersey 2017, with the right positioning -- long an Utley specialty -- it was an out. The hearts of Dodgers fans skipped a beat, but not Barnes'. "I thought Watty made a good pitch there," Barnes said. "We fell behind, but I thought Utley was going to make the play."
The Deshaun Watson story is fantastic, and the young man is obviously the real deal. You don't perform the way he did as a rookie in Seattle if you're a mirage, and it isn't Watson's fault that Russell Wilson is playing better than any quarterback west of the Liberty Bell http://www.officialauthenticredskinsstore.com/womens_montae_nicholson_jersey right now.
But the standings show the Texans at 3-4, behind both Jacksonville and Tennessee in the AFC South. They're 1-1 in the division, having lost to Jacksonville in Tom Savage's Week 1 start and beaten Tennessee a couple of weeks later. While Houston's offense is operating at a higher level than any other in the division, the Texans' high-profile defensive injuries could continue to cause problems.
Jacksonville's defense looks legit, and Marcus Mariota was Watson before Watson was, so it's not as if the rest of the division is going to step aside and watch this guy's coronation. The Texans and their young quarterback still have plenty of work to do, and those who would tout Watson for MVP should remember that MVPs almost always have winning records.
The Chiefs have made http://www.officialdodgersshoponline.com/WOMENS-JULIO-URIAS-JERSEY.html a mockery of what should have been the toughest division in the league Whipping Denver on Monday night put 6-2 Kansas City 2.5 games in front of the rest of the division. No other team is even .500. Imagine what this would look like if the Raiders hadn't gotten, like, 14 shots at the game-winning touchdown in that Thursday night game in Week 7.
The Chiefs have beaten the Patriots and Eagles outside the division and the Chargers and Broncos Justin Ellis Youth jersey in it. Of their remaining eight opponents, only Buffalo, Miami and the now Zeke-less Cowboys have winning records. This race is over, and while the Chargers, Broncos or Raiders might have chances to turn things around and make a wild-card run, all three have to be in the running for AFC's most disappointing team of the season. Ezekiel Elliott has 88 carries for 413 yards and four touchdowns in the past three games. Photo by Daniel Kucin Jr./Icon Sportswire
The Southern District Court might have decided the NFC East on MondayBarring some sort of legal Hail Mary pass in the Second Circuit Court, Judge Katherine Failla's ruling means Ezekiel Elliott has to start serving his six-game suspension now. Without Elliott for the next six games, the Cowboys probably won't
have enough to catch the Eagles. The only reason they had a chance to begin with was the fact that they still have games against the Eagles in Weeks 11 and 17, but this certainly doesn't help their cause. The chances are even slimmer for Washington, which sits 3.5 games out of first and has lost Justin Ellis Youth jersey to the Eagles twice already. (Washington is 0-3 in the division. For goodness sake, the only other teams that are 0-3 in division play are the Browns and 49ers.)
At some point, that "road to victory" on which the song instructs the Eagles to "fly" is bound to encounter a pothole or two. The 49ers aren't the kind of defense that takes advantage of Jason Peters' absence. The Broncos, Cowboys, Bears and Seahawks just might be, and those are Philly's next four opponents. But the Eagles are absolutely in the driver's seat in the NFC East, and while Dallas is a defending division champ with a monster offensive line, Elliott's an MVP-caliber talent who's going to be missed. It might not matter who plays quarterback for the Vikings
Has there ever been a 6-2 team heading into its bye with three legitimate possibilities to start at quarterback the rest of the way? You could make the case that it's crazy to take Case Keenum out while the Vikings are winning, but he's 25th in the league in touchdown passes and 22nd in yards per attempt. If Teddy Bridgewater and/or Sam Bradford is ready in two weeks, is it crazy to try to elevate the team's ceiling at the sport's most important position?
Four of Minnesota's next five games are on the road, including trips to Detroit, Atlanta and Carolina. There's nothing that says Brett Hundley can't get his act together in Green Bay, where the Packers are still just a game and a half back. Vikings coaches have a lot to consider during the bye.
When we do our preseason predictions, we all know there are few reliables, but the Bills missing the playoffs is a straight-up given. Buffalo has played the past 17 NFL seasons without reaching the playoffs, and in that time has had only two winning seasons. It's death, taxes and the Bills not making the playoffs. here they are, though:
5-2 after a 34-14 thumping of the Raiders. They sit a half-game behind the Patriots, who beat the Chargers 21-13 Sunday -- and Buffalo's was the more convincing home victory over a struggling AFC West opponent. The Bills have a short-week road game this Thursday, but it's against the Jets, and a win would tie the Bills with New England at the top of the AFC East with two head-to-head games left.
Now, don't read me wrong here. This isn't to say the Bills are on the verge of some changing of Dominic Moore Womens Jersey the guard. The gulf between these two franchises is so huge that Niagara Falls could pour into it for the next 17 years and not fill it. During Buffalo's 17-year playoff drought, New England has made the playoffs 14 times (including each of the past eight seasons), won five http://www.bengalsofficialonlinestore.com/Josh_Malone_Jersey Super Bowls and gone 29-5 in head-to-head games against Buffalo. The Patriots are basically the opposite of the Bills.
But if those 6-2 Patriots, who http://www.redskinsnflofficialonline.com/Nike-Charles-Mann-Jersey.html lost their best defensive player to injury last week, are inclined to check their side-view mirror, they might find that the Bills are closer than they appear. If the Bills beat the Jets on Thursday night, Buffalo will own a 6-2 record, which is the team's best mark through eight games since a 7-1 start in 1993. Brett Carlsen/Getty Images
If nothing else, rookie coach Sean McDermott knows that his bunch is resilient. The Bills played Sunday without three injured defensive starters and another -- defensive tackle Marcell Dareus -- who got traded on Friday. McDermott explained after the game that the players weren't that shaken up by the Dareus deal because they all remember the team trading its best wide receiver, Sammy Watkins, before the season started, so they know the front office could make any roster move at any time,
and it's important to not let it mess them up. Message delivered. The battered Bills defense clamped down on a Raiders team that was working on nine days' rest since dropping 505 yards on the Chiefs in Week 7.
Buffalo isn't loaded with offensive weapons, but it isn't making mistakes, either. The Bills have turned the ball over three times all season -- fewer than any team but the Chiefs. They had an NFL-best plus-10 turnover differential heading into Sunday and improved it by four. Only Jacksonville and Pittsburgh have allowed fewer points per game. They might not be spectacular, but the Bills are pretty finely tuned. And you know what? The trades they've made in the past six months have landed them extra first-, second- http://www.jetsofficialsnflprostore.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_BRENT_QVALE_JERSEY.html and third-round picks in the 2018 draft. So if they wanted to augment their roster with a big-splash trade in advance of Tuesday afternoon's deadline, they could.
Again, no one's going to bet their retirement plan on the Bills' making the playoffs. But one of these years, they will. The Buffalo team that breaks the drought will be one that doesn't beat itself and knows how to overcome adversity. Halfway through the season, this year's bunch fits the description. With two head-to-head games against the Patriots still on the docket, one thing the Bills definitely have is an opportunity. Some things we learned (and didn't learn) about the other division races in Week 8: The Steelers should be embarrassed if they don't win the AFC North
A bunch of first-place teams are dealing with potentially crippling crises right now. New England's injuries. Seattle's run game. Kansas City's defense. In Dominic Moore Womens Jersey Pittsburgh, all is not smooth, as the offense still seems forced and halting most of the time, Ben Roethlisberger is not in rhythm, and the Martavis Bryant situation has created an obviously annoying internal issue for coach Mike Tomlin to manage.
But the best teams are the ones that find ways to overcome their problems, and the Steelers are 6-2 with a two-game lead over a Ravens team they've already beaten in Baltimore. Now, I'm well aware of the score of the Ravens' Dominic Moore Womens Jersey Thursday night victory over Miami. But 153 passing yards per game isn't playoff-caliber in 2017, and it's hard to see where Baltimore's offensive spark will come from.
by a pile of turnovers, Denver Broncos coach Vance Joseph said Tuesday the team is considering a change at quarterback. And the choice, at the moment, is between current starter Trevor Siemian and backup Brock Osweiler. Joseph said Paxton Lynch, the team's first-round pick in 2016, "won't be in the mix'' to start Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
"When you lose three in a row and how we've lost the football games, again [Monday] on offense with four Desmond Trufant Womens Jersey turnovers, I think everything is for discussion,'' Joseph said. "It's fair to say, right now, everything is being discussed. ... It's unfair to your team if you're not discussing that position.''
Because the Broncos are on a short week and leave for Philadelphia after Friday's practice, Joseph is expected to share his decision with Siemian and Osweiler Wednesday morning, then the rest of the players at the team meeting.
Siemian, who has won the job in back-to-back training camp battles, threw three interceptions in Monday night's 29-19 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Only the Panthers' Cam Newton and Cleveland Browns rookie DeShone Kizer -- each with 11 -- have thrown more interceptions than Siemian's 10 this season.
Siemian is 29th in the league in passer rating (76. and has been sacked 25 times -- tied for second highest among the league's starters. The Broncos, despite owning the league's No. 1 defense, have lost four of the past five to drop to 3-5.
Asked whether Broncos offensive coordinator Mike http://www.officialpelicansstore.com/Etwaun_Moore_Jersey McCoy has protected Siemian well enough Desmond Trufant Womens Jersey recently, Desmond Trufant Womens Jersey Joseph said: "I think he has, but I've said all along we can coach and http://www.officialauthenticpatriots.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_JIMMY_GAROPPOLO_JERSEY.html play better. ... [Siemian] has to play his way out of bad plays and not make them worse, that's his job as a quarterback.'' "I just turned it over, couple of bad decisions, tough to win, tough to beat good teams when you turn it over,'' Siemian said after Monday's loss to the Chiefs.
Osweiler was signed by the Broncos just before the season after Lynch suffered a right (throwing) shoulder injury in a preseason win over the Green Bay Packers. Osweiler spent four seasons with the Broncos after being the team's second-round pick in the 2012 draft.
Osweiler started seven games for an injured Peyton Manning in 2015 and then left in free agency for Houston. But after he threw 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions as the Texans' starter in 2016, he was traded to the Browns; the Browns then released him during the preseason.
Broncos president of football operations/general manager John Elway said Osweiler could undergo "football rehab'' with the Broncos. Elway said during a Tuesday appearance on the Desmond Trufant Womens Jersey Broncos' partner radio station that the team would "be fine'' if Osweiler were named the starter.
Joseph said the decision comes down to whether the coaches could "do a better job of simplifying [Siemian's] life'' and get improved play, or whether the change to Osweiler could shake the team out of its doldrums.
"I think Trevor has been pressing to be a special player for us,'' Joseph http://www.officialauthenticfalconshop.com/Nike-Grady-Jarrett-Jersey.html said. "Trevor is a young quarterback that hasn't played that much NFL football. It's a new system that he's inherited with Mike McCoy here, so his inconsistencies have come just by him pressing, trying to make big plays."
Joseph said he, Elway, McCoy and quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave http://www.knicksstoreonline.com/Tim_Hardaway_Jr_Jersey will make the call. Joseph also left open the possibility of putting Lynch in the lineup at some point this season as Lynch's shoulder improves and he practices more.
In addition, the deal might also suggest that the 49ers aren't particularly impressed with Corey Dickerson Authentic Jersey this year's crop of draft-eligible quarterbacks. While the college season isn't close to finishing and the pre-draft scouting process hasn't yet started, the Niners might have seen enough to
sense that http://www.officialmapleleafsstore.com/Womens_Youth_Darcy_Tucker_Jersey they didn't want to make a bet on someone like Josh Rosen or Josh Allen. With the Browns heavy favorites to finish with the first overall pick and draft a quarterback, San Francisco might have preferred Garoppolo to a shot at the second-best passer in this year's class.
Other teams will disagree, of course, which opens up an exciting opportunity for the Niners if they do finish with the second overall pick, as is currently projected. In writing about the Colts last week,
I mentioned that Indianapolis found itself in the relatively enviable situation of having a top-three pick in a class full of quarterbacks without needing a quarterback themselves. The Colts could then swap their pick to a team that desperately wanted one of the passers for a bevy of selections, allowing Indy to rebuild their defense and offensive line in the process.
If the 49ers are going to go with Garoppolo, they can beat the Colts to the punch and do the same thing with the second overall pick. Trading a second-round pick for Garoppolo now won't matter much if the 49ers can deal their top pick for multiple first-rounders. As we saw when they traded with the Bears this year, the Niners don't need to believe in a franchise quarterback to pick up Corey Dickerson Authentic Jersey extra selections. They just need one other team to believe.
Things haven't changed much, if only because the Browns are still comfortable favorites to finish ahead of the 49ers and end up with the first overall pick. They might have pursued Garoppolo this offseason, and might have come away with him had Cousins signed with the 49ers, but there are too many teams with far more appealing situations who would have Corey Dickerson Authentic Jersey likely pipped the Browns to their longtime crush.
He also tweaked parts of practice and said there would be an increased emphasis on special teams, an area the Gators have been inconsistent on all season. "I don't look at it as an audition," Shannon said. "I just think the opportunity to coach and have fun with a bunch of guys, the student-athletes that you have a chance to be with. ... We've got Corey Dickerson Authentic Jersey to go out there as a whole team and unit and coaching staff and have fun with these guys, be very enthusiastic, be very positive and whatever happens in the game early, we've got to weather the storm.
Athletic director Scott Stricklin asked Shannon to take over Sunday, knowing he would make adjustments that could spark the Gators (3-4, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) down the stretch. Florida plays at Missouri (3-5, 0-4) on http://www.officialdetroitredwings.com/Adidas-Teemu-Pulkkinen-Jersey Saturday.
One thing Shannon didn't do was make http://www.broncosauthenticsofficial.com/ty-sambrailo-jersey_c-555.html radical adjustments to a lackluster offense that ranks 112th in the nation. He even stuck with embattled coordinator Doug Nussmeier as playcaller.
"You can't wholesale everything," Shannon said. "Coach Mac left a great foundation for us. Now we've just got to build on it. We're going to do certain things in practice that are maybe a little bit different. ... You have to change something http://www.raidersnflproshop.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_JELANI_JENKINS_JERSEY.html or it becomes stagnant. We won't be stagnant. We'll change some things that we feel are best for us."
NEW YORK -- The term "expansion team" is a pejorative in hockey parlance. These teams are viewed like that shelf at the supermarket that holds deeply discounted items that have reached their expiration date, aren't selling or are damaged goods. These players are castoffs. They're misfits. They're the unwanted.
The Vegas Golden Knights are, in fact, an expansion team, even if they've yet to play like one. Their 8-1-0 Teddy Purcell Jersey record leads the NHL in points percentage (.889), and they have the fewest goals allowed (19) and the second-best goal differential (plus-14) in the NHL entering Monday night's game at the New York Islanders. Vegas is the first team in NHL history to win eight of its first nine games in its inaugural season.
Its http://www.authenticoaklandathletics.com/Reggie-Jackson-Jersey success is fueled by many factors -- getting seven straight home games to find its footing, as well as the emotional heft of representing the city in the aftermath of its most tragic day -- but the main factors are that the expansion rules handed a better class of players to the Golden Knights than previous expansion teams, and that these players are, frankly, really pissed off that they were exposed in that draft.
"Guys are just a little bit upset with everything that happened," said defenseman Nate Schmidt, formerly of the Washington Capitals. "You don't want to be picked in the expansion draft. You want to be protected by your team."
James Neal certainly did. His last game for the Nashville Predators was June 11, when the Predators were eliminated in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ten days later, Neal was exposed in the expansion draft and became a no-brainer selection for the Knights.
"It's always tough to leave a team, but especially when you're so attached to them," said Neal. "I knew there was a possibility. Especially being in the last year of my contract."
Neal, 30, has seven goals and three assists in Teddy Purcell Jersey nine games for the Knights, a terrific start after a down season overall (23 goals, 14 assists, 41 points, minus-10 in 70 games) in Nashville. He acknowledged the collective chip on his teammates' shoulders as a motivating factor in their record start.
"There is, for sure. It's a chance for guys that didn't get a chance on their former teams to play a bigger role," he said. "Maybe guys that didn't have the best season have a chance to turn it around."
Schmidt remembered Neal's struggles last season. "When we played against James Neal last season, he was on the fourth line in Nashville. Now, it ended up better for him at the end of the year, but he's come here and played really well for us because we need him to. We rely on guys that rise to the occasion," he said. "It http://www.bengalsnflofficialprostore.com/WOMENS-CARLOS-DUNLAP-JERSEY.html takes the pressure off a lot of guys, to have guys like Neal and David Perron and Reilly Smith that are proven goal scorers in this league. It takes the pressure off of guys who played lesser roles in other cities."
He played four years with the Capitals, getting 15:29 in average ice time last season at 25 years old. In nine games with Vegas, the smooth-skating defenseman has http://www.officialrockiestore.com/Nolan_Arenado_Jersey six points and is skating a career-high 21:24 per game.
"You look at all guys, they came from places where ... not that they were undervalued, but Teddy Purcell Jersey there wasn't a whole lot of room for them, or room for them to grow. Like anything you do, you've got to water the seed and give it room to grow," said Schmidt. "I think that's why guys here are playing well. They have expectations for themselves because they're playing a bigger role and guys are running with it."
he was their quarterback of the future. It might also say something about Brady, who continues to play at a high level, even with inconsistent offensive line play and Edelman out of the lineup. It's possible the Patriots were waiting to see if Brady slipped this season before making a decision on Garoppolo,
but that seems far less decisive than Belichick typically is with talent Justin Houston Womens Jersey evaluation. The Garoppolo trade suggests that the Pats expect to keep Brady around through the end of his current deal, which expires in 2019. If they draft a replacement for Garoppolo this offseason, if all goes right, the new guy will get two years to study under Brady before presumably taking over in 2020.
It might also say something about Belichick, who has been making moves designed to win now. The Patriots traded for players and went after free agents in the past, but those moves were made sparingly. Think about what the Pats did this offseason. They traded a first-round pick for Cooks, who is two years from unrestricted free agency. They Justin Houston Womens Jersey signed Stephon Gilmore to a top-dollar deal at cornerback. The Pats didn't deal Butler to the Saints, even if it means getting a lesser pick as free-agent compensation next year. They signed two veteran running backs. in Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee.
The only move that didn't jibe with http://www.buccaneersofficialauthentic.com/Authentic-Jj-Wilcox-Jersey the win-now philosophy was holding onto Garoppolo when the Pats could have gotten a player or draft picks which would have netted them players for the 2017 roster. Now, that has changed, although (barring a trade this week) the player won't join the Patriots until 2018. It's difficult to imagine him doing anything else, but you have to wonder whether Belichick plans to be coaching the Patriots after Brady decides to retire.
We won't know for years whether the Patriots were right to trade away Garoppolo for a second-round pick. In terms of 2017, though, the Garoppolo trade is unlikely to hurt the Patriots. The idea that the Patriots needed Garoppolo as a backup in case Brady got injured was always too concerned with the worst-case scenario, given that Brady has suffered two injuries that caused him to miss meaningful time since taking over as the starter in 2001,
neither of which have come in the past decade. It's still unclear whether Garoppolo is really that much better than a typical backup quarterback in McDaniels' system, and trading Garoppolo wouldn't have precluded the Patriots from targeting a viable backup to sit behind Brady. The choice wasn't between Garoppolo and an emergency quarterback like Edelman; it was between Garoppolo and a veteran like Hoyer, whom the Patriots might have looked at http://www.officialsaintsnflproshop.com/YOUTH+JOSH+HILL+JERSEY in the event of a Garoppolo deal.
Now, it's likely Hoyer will be returning to his former team, as the 49ers released Hoyer after making the trade Monday night. Reports suggested that Hoyer was initially part of the trade, with the Patriots instead asking for Hoyer to be released for compensatory pick purposes. Given that the Pats have no other passers on the roster besides Brady after trading Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett this season, it seems exceedingly likely Hoyer will be backing up Brady when the Patriots return from their bye.
The 49ers might have chosen to wait until the offseason before attempting to sign Garoppolo, but their desire to make a move now is telling. As mentioned earlier, they likely wanted to evaluate Garoppolo before committing to him financially as their quarterback of the future,
information they'll get over the second half of this season. Outside of Cousins or someone out of the box like Drew Brees, they won't have better information Justin Houston Womens Jersey on any of the quarterbacks they might be considering over the next decade than the knowledge they're about to gain on Garoppolo.
The trade also implies that the 49ers believe Garoppolo was probably their best option. It likely insinuates that their chances of coming away with Cousins may not have been great all along. If the Niners felt confident they would be in line to sign Cousins in March, even given the scenario I mentioned earlier, they probably wouldn't have bothered to make this trade. Garoppolo serves no purpose as a short-term rental.
NFL executives suggested the Patriots would get a first-round pick in a Garoppolo deal. The Pats were reportedly asking for two first-round picks, but were willing to settle for the first overall pick. The Pats reportedly turned down an overture from the Browns during the first round of the draft for Garoppolo.
If it wasn't about the trade value, then the Patriots were holding onto Garoppolo as part of http://www.authenticpiratesstore.com/Authentic-Gregory-Polanco-Jersey some scheme to be revealed after the season. They wanted Garoppolo because he was about to be the "next great quarterback" in New England.
The Pats were going to use the franchise tag on Garoppolo and trade him to the highest bidder. Maybe Don Yee, the agent to both Patriots passers, would arrange for Garoppolo to sign a new deal with a structure that would see his salary soar just as Tom Brady ran off into a field of kale. The Patriots would come away Jeff Samardzija Youth jersey with some outsized return because Bill Belichick is always going to be smarter than the guy on the other side of the table.
After Jeff Samardzija Youth jersey Monday's trade, Occam's Razor suggests none of that to be true. The Patriots weren't going to be able to slap the franchise tag on Garoppolo because of their needs on http://www.hornetsprostore.com/Timofey_Mozgov_Jersey defense as cornerback Malcolm Butler hits free agency. Belichick doesn't appear to think Garoppolo is his quarterback of the future, because if he thought Garoppolo was going to be a franchise passer for the next decade, the same guy who has kicked every other Patriots legend out the door would have moved on from Brady this offseason. The Patriots probably weren't offered a juicy first-round pick this offseason, and while they waited to see if any competitor got desperate and made them a Sam Bradford-sized offer, the trade never came.
In the end, the Patriots waited until just about the last second and took the best available offer on the table. If you treat the offers that might have been available six months ago as sunk costs and evaluate what the Patriots could have done with Garoppolo from this point forward, this is a reasonable return. The best-case scenario would have seen the Patriots come away with a compensatory pick at the bottom of the third round of the 2019 draft, somewhere between picks 97 and 100, and that would only come if New England didn't make another foray into high-level free agency this offseason.

Instead, the Patriots guarantee themselves a high second-round Jeff Samardzija Youth jersey pick in the 2018 draft, a much better selection and one that comes a year earlier. The 49ers are the second-worst team in football and have a 98.6 percent chance, per the Football Power Index, of finishing among the league's five worst teams. The Pats should come away with a pick between 33 and 37 and get that selection in April, which is helpful for a team that lost its first-round pick in 2016 because of the Deflategate scandal and traded its 2017 first-rounder for Brandin Cooks.
Belichick loves high http://www.authenticredsox.com/Authentic-Fred-Lynn-Jersey second-round picks, which have proven to be the most valuable selections of the draft in terms of surplus value. He has drafted players such as Eugene Wilson and Patrick Chung at the top of the second round in years past, but Belichick also loves trading down and around the draft, and a high second-round pick gives him plenty of options. If it's the 33rd selection, Belichick will likely try to flip it for a future first-round pick from some overzealous team.
Belichick might also try to trade the pick for talent to win now. One report suggests that Belichick will look to trade the pick for defensive line help, a logical target given the wildly frustrating play of the Patriots this season. The problem is that the Patriots have only about $5.4 million in cap room, which will limit their options. They can't fit someone like Ziggy Ansah into their remaining cap space without making another deal.
There also just aren't many useful defensive linemen available from teams looking to give away http://www.jaguarsnflofficialonline.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_MALIK_JACKSON_JERSEY.html talent, especially after the Bills dealt away the Marcell Dareus contract last week. The widespread parity around the NFL means that the majority of teams are still in contention and inclined to hold onto their pass Jeff Samardzija Youth jersey rushers and interior linemen. The 49ers, coincidentally, would have been a
plausible trade candidate with guys such as Elvis Dumervil and Aaron Lynch struggling to get regular snaps. Belichick could send a late-round pick to acquire a player like Hau'oli Kikaha, but there's not a defensive disruptor who would be both available and worth a high second-round pick via trade.
If Cousins does leave Washington as a free agent in the offseason, the popular assumption was that he would end up in San Francisco. Cousins http://www.newyorkislandersofficialonline.com/Adidas-Jean-francois-Berube-Jersey reportedly clamored to be dealt to the Bay Area during the offseason, given that Washington has shown little interest in signing Cousins to a market-value extension.
His fallback plan might have been to play under fellow former Washington offensive coordinator Sean McVay in Los Angeles, but with Jared Goff breaking out after a dismal 2016 campaign, the Rams aren't going to be in the Cousins market.
After the Garoppolo trade, Cousins' path out of Washington isn't anywhere near as clear. If both Los Angeles and San Francisco are blocked, Cousins will be down to a few options. The Giants and Steelers could presumably in the market for http://www.officialfootballauthentics.com/denver_broncos-c-34_808.html a quarterback if Eli Manning or Ben Roethlisberger retire.
The Jaguars suddenly look like they're a good quarterback away from being one of the best teams in football, given how effectively they can run the ball and hold up on defense. The Broncos and Vikings could clear out cap room and move on from their myriad of possible answers under center if Cousins came calling. The Bills are clearing out space and may move on from Tyrod Taylor. The Browns and Jets will happily throw a dump truck of money at Cousins. (The Cardinals probably won't be able to afford him.)
If Cousins hits the market and wants to get paid, he won't lack for suitors. No team might be quite as appealing as the familiarity he sought with Shanahan, though, which strengthens Washington's position. Sure, if Roethlisberger retires, Cousins would be a great replacement, but that's hardly a lock.
It's entirely possible that the relationship between Cousins and this Washington administration has been destroyed to the point that Cousins might have no choice but to leave, but if Washington finally makes a real offer to its best quarterback in a generation, Cousins might be more apt Marcus Williams Youth jersey to listen if Garoppolo is entrenched in San Francisco.
There's also a scenario in which the 49ers play this beautifully and end up with the quarterback they wanted all along and extra picks in the process. Let's say Cousins doesn't get the franchise tag, hits the market, and wants to play in San Francisco. If Garoppolo plays poorly, the 49ers kept the trade compensation low enough that they can wipe their hands of the deal and just end up with Cousins anyway. (They would theoretically be in line to recoup free-agent compensation, but given that the Niners are likely to be spending in free agency, I doubt they would actually come away with a pick.)
If Garoppolo plays well, though, the Niners can do all kinds of things. They can use the franchise tag on Garoppolo and trade him to the highest bidder for what would likely be a much stronger return than a second-round pick. They can sign Garoppolo to an extension with a large first-year roster bonus,
pay the bonus, and then deal Garoppolo on what amounts to a friendly contract for an even better trade haul. While the chances your Marcus Williams Youth jersey "COUSINS" 49ers jersey investment will pay off have dropped precipitously, it's too early to rule out anything.
Something changed over the past six months for the Patriots. We might not know what happened for a while, but if you believe any of the reports about the sorts of offers the Patriots were expecting to field for Garoppolo this offseason, they played their cards all wrong.
Who says the NFL never has any trades? After the Houston Texans sent Duane Brown to the Seattle Seahawks to finally provide Seattle with the left tackle it had sought for years, the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers consummated a stunning trade on Monday. The http://www.officialrayshop.com/Kevin_Kiermaier_Jersey 0-8 Niners were expected to target their quarterback of the future this offseason, but they've made a move earlier than anybody expected in trading their 2018 second-round pick to the Patriots for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
The short-term ramifications of the Garoppolo deal aren't much -- the 49ers are all but eliminated from the playoffs and Garoppolo wasn't playing behind Tom Brady in Matthew Spencer Youth jersey New England -- but there are huge reverberations for a number of players and teams across the league that will be felt in the months and years to come. Let's break them down and trace the dominoes of the Garoppolo deal:
And let's start with the one player to actually change hands in the deal. Matthew Spencer Youth jersey The 49ers took half-measures this offseason to address the quarterback position, signing http://www.officialbroncosnflauthentic.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_MATT_PARADIS_JERSEY.html Brian Hoyer as a result of his experience playing under new coach Kyle Shanahan before using a third-round pick on C.J.
Beathard. Neither move has borne much fruit. Hoyer posted his worst passer rating in five years before being benched after six games, and Beathard has subsequently been worse. Only the Bears and have Browns have fielded passers with a cumulative Total QBR worse than San Francisco's 28.4 mark this season.
Enter Garoppolo, who probably won't start against the Cardinals this week but might be ready to enter the lineup against the Giants on Nov. 12. With the 49ers on bye the following week, Garoppolo will likely be under center no later than Nov. 26, when the fourth-year quarterback will be up against the mighty Seahawks.
Anyone who tells you that Garoppolo will be a great fit for Shanahan's scheme is guessing. Truthfully, we're not even sure Garoppolo is a great fit in Josh McDaniels' scheme, given that the sample size of Garoppolo as a starting quarterback playing meaningful football amounts to six quarters and 63 pass attempts.
As I wrote about at the time, Garoppolo looked great while attacking rookie Cardinals cornerback Brandon Williams, who has barely seen the field on defense over the past year. A week later, he beat up a Dolphins pass defense that would end the year ranked 16th in DVOA, targeting linebacker Jelani Jenkins, who has already been on three different rosters this season.
A sprained shoulder ended his time as the Patriots' starter before Brady returned, and injuries remain a huge unknown in terms of estimating Garoppolo's value. The 49ers are likely making this deal with the intention of having Garoppolo start under Shanahan in the long term, but there should be no rush in giving Garoppolo a long-term deal because he's in line to make just $434,158 more over the rest of the season. The Niners can also easily franchise Garoppolo in 2018 at a price which will exceed $23 million, given that general manager John Lynch should Matthew Spencer Youth jersey have in excess of $100 million in room after carrying over $60 million in unused space from this season's cap.
The 49ers will also have to be patient with Garoppolo. Shanahan's reputation holds that his offensive scheme takes a year to percolate before sticking, with the Falcons as the most notable example. Matt Ryan looked frustrated and lost at times in 2015, but he won league MVP behind a better offensive line in 2016. Ryan had a training camp to learn the scheme; Garoppolo will be learning the playbook overnight. We won't really know what the Niners have under center until the end of the 2018 season.
Garoppolo won't have much to work with, either, given how beat up the Niners are on offense. The strength of the offense was their tackle duo, but Joe Staley fractured his orbital bone in the loss to the Eagles on Sunday, while breakout right tackle Trent Brown missed the game with a concussion. Garoppolo's nominal top receiver is Pierre Garcon, but the former Washington standout missed most of the second half against Philadelphia with a neck injury after crashing into Eagles linebackers coach Ken Flajole just before halftime. It's a drop-off going from Rob Gronkowski, Chris Hogan and Julian Edelman to George Kittle, Trent Taylor and Marquise Goodwin, and there's every reason to believe Garoppolo's performance will drop accordingly.
In looking at Garoppolo's possible landing points, though, San Francisco was one of the best-case scenarios. He'll join an organization that is seriously committed to its coach and general manager, with the Niners having handed both Shanahan and Lynch six-year deals before this season. Garoppolo doesn't have to worry about joining an organization and having the guys who wanted him leave town for the foreseeable future. He'll be working with an offensive-minded coach with a track record of improving his http://www.billsnflofficialprostore.com/Authentic-Leonard-Johnson-Jersey quarterbacks. When Staley and Brown are on the field, the 49ers have a pair of useful pass protectors on the edges, even if Staley has slipped some
